“Joining Drawing Competition”

 

When I was still in high school student grade 12, I was asked by my teacher to join drawing competition. It was kind of surprised for me; all of this happened because when my teacher came to our class and asked who want to join drawing competition. Suddenly my entire classmate looked at me and they told the teacher I was good at drawing. So, I'm kind of shy because of that.

My teacher asked me if I want to join the competition, I was hesitated at first but its worth to try. But, my teacher said she needs three students to join this competition, so I'm recommended my other two friends to her. Both of them are great. Carmen, she's really good at drawing just like me and Yeni, she's still practicing her skill of drawing but she's great at giving an idea of story, she's good at writing story. After all that, my teacher said 'yes, ask them join please' so I did and called them out and they agree. The reason I want to join this because I have skill that I can show to people that never saw my skill before, because I'm such shy person so I never show my skill too much. This is my hobby that I need to develop. And also, my teacher asked me to join. This is great opportunity for me and my friends.

The kind of drawing competition was created comic strip. A comic strip is a sequence of drawings arranged in interrelated panels to display brief humor or form a narrative, often serialized, with text in balloons and captions. This is making us so intense because create comic is not that easy. The struggle are; this was our first time joined created comic competition. When created comic, we need a lot of time to think what kind of story that'll make the readers understand and to make them interested with our story. Not just that, we also need to draw it nicely, because some people always interested to see how the drawing looks like. Thankfully, there's a theme for this competition. I'm kind of forgot what the theme was, I think it was about 'food safety'. I don' really remember but it's kind of close to that. So, it’s easy to think what story is going to become. We tried our best to think fast, drawing fast but neat, because our teacher give us deadline when to give the comic to her, so she can send it to the one who held the competition.

The one who held the competition was 'GERMAS SAPA' part of BPOM. GERMAS SAPA is a national movement that supports GERMAS (Gerakan Masyarakat Hidup Sehat) that has been running so far, involving all sectors of interest. This shows the commitment of Balai POM in Palangka Raya in ensuring food quality and safety in the area of Central Kalimantan Province. This competition was held in 'Bundaran Besar'. So, on Sunday morning me and Carmen went to Bundaran Besar. Yeni couldn’t come because she had a lot of work to do. So it was just me, Carmen and our teacher. We came to Bundaran Besar because that's the place where the announcement of the winner is. We saw our comic hanging up on blackboard with the rest of other's contestant from different school. It was cool to see other's students comic.

While we waited for the announcement, we went to photo booth to took a picture. After that, the most happiest thing is our teacher buy 'batagor' for us. We were so happy. But, it was still sad because Yeni couldn't come and enjoy this moment. After we finished ate batagor, we went around Bundaran Besar and looking all stuff around it. Kind of tired walked around so we went back to the announcement took place. Time has passed, finally the time of announcement has arrived. Me and my friend was nervous, scared and sad because my thought was 'what if we don't win?' My teacher notices that, and she told us "it's alright if we don't win, all that matters is that three of you already working so hard, never giving up and give your best. And the most important thing is that you guys having so much fun when created the comic." After hearing this from our teacher, its make us calm and happy. My thought was right, we didn't win. It was sad, but I think it’s worth it and we were still happy. Our teacher said thanks to us for joining the competition and after that we said goodbye and went home.

It was very memorable to me, for the first time I'm joined competition to created comic. It was hard, but with Carmen and Yeni I feel like I can do it that time. There's no way I can't do it alone. Also, my teacher giving us an encourage word that's make us happy and confident. Back then, I was so glad to join and it was worth it.
